Rasa Description
The 2016 QED Convergence is ripe and powerful, with a sturdy tannic backbone that is the hallmark of the vintage. The complex bouquet consists of blackberry, kirsch, white pepper, cured meats, and grilled herbs. Nuances of honeysuckle, gravel, and tar can also be noted. The palate is beautifully layered and complex: blackberry, huckleberry, kirsch dominate but notes of bacon fat, truffle mushroom, Asian spices, and grilled herbs support. The racy acidity and substantial yet refined tannins provide a nice counterpoint to the fruit vibrancy. The very long finish echoes tones of kirsch, bacon fat, and white pepper. The wine should reach maturity in 7-9 years and will hold for approximately 15+ years.
Vinous Media: 91 Points
Moderately saturated, medium red. Musky, gamey aromas of black fruits, raspberry, pepper and mocha; quite flamboyant and wild. Rich, thick and fine-grained but not at all flat, with pepper and floral high notes lifting the flavors of dark berries, dark chocolate, tree bark and game. Quite dry as well, showing easygoing sweetness but a refined texture. This Rhone blend avoids dry tannins and finishes with subtle, rising chocolate-and-pepper length. Shows the slow-ripening depth of flavor of the vintage's better examples.
