Tua Rita - Toscana Giusto di Notri 2020
Tua Rita Description
Giusto di Notri is a Bordeaux-inspired blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, selectively harvested in September. After a gentle pressing, the juice and skins macerate for a lengthy period of 25-30 days to add concentration and depth to the final wine. The wine is then aged for 18-20 months in French oak barrels and refined six months in bottle before release.
The word "Giusto" refers to the name of the Patron Saint of Suvereto (the hilltop Tuscan town where Tua Rita is located) and "Notri" is the name of the winery's exact location.
Wine Advocate: 96 Points
A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot, the 2020 Giusto di Notri is a ripe, bold and generous wine. The DNA of the wine has changed slightly over the years to favor the Cabernet Franc (with an increased percentage) over the Merlot, which has fallen from a previous high of about 35% to 40% of the blend a decade ago. What I like about this wine is that it manages an elegant, almost understated interpretation of a hot and dry vintage. The tannins are especially well managed in this situation. In 2020, Tua Rita's harvest was finished by October 6th.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
A concentrated, supple red, delivering black currant, blackberry, iron, earth and toasty spice flavors. While backed by a spine of firm, dense tannins, this remains balanced and long in its youthful manner. Give this two to three more years in the cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2042. 3,333 cases made, 400 cases imported.
